Baby is the first measles victim in Rio de Janeiro after years with the disease eradicated

                                                     Published on Feb 14, 2020 SES-RJ (Secretary of State for Health) confirmed on Thursday night (14) the first measles death in Rio de Janeiro after years with the disease eradicated. The victim was an 8-month-old baby in Nova Iguaçu, in the Baixada Fluminense. 89 Measles cases were confirmed in Rio de Janeiro only in 2020, about a third of the number registered in 2019. The expectation is that approximately 10. 000 people will be diagnosed with the disease this year across the state. The Ministry of Health has scheduled for this Saturday (15) D-Day of measles vaccination. According to representatives of the ministry, the target audience is young people from 5 to 19 years. The federal government expects to vaccinate more than 3 million people between 10 in February and 13 in March.
